African prisoner escapes from north Cyprus court during trial

A prisoner who was brought to the Lefkoşa court on Friday for trial tried to escape from the court but was caught and brought back to court.

The individual, an African was been tried in court on Friday January 3 for a fatal accident when he escaped.

After a brief chase, the suspect was apprehended and brought back to court. It was reported that a police officer sustained minor injuries to his hand while intervening during the escape.

The suspect was initially on trial for causing a traffic accident while driving under the influence of alcohol. 

Following the escape attempt, an additional case will be filed against the suspect under the charge of escaping lawful custody.
