Student stabbed during a fight at a student dormitory in Haspolat
The incident happened at around 10:00 PM on Friday Dec. 27 in the garden section of the Hala Sultan Higher Education Student Dormitory, a public place in Haspolat when one of the suspects KD, a Turkish national brought out a knife with which another suspect, FB, a Turkish national used in stabbing one FTC, a Turkish national which left him seriously injured.
They were arrested and brought to court on Saturday Dec. 28. FB was charged for "Serious Injury, Illegal Possession of a Knife," while KD was charged for "Fighting, Disturbance, Improper Conduct, and Illegal Possession of a Knife".
Police officer who testified in court said the suspect FB got into an argument with FTC over an air conditioning dispute. During the ensuing fight, they hit each other with their hands and feet. The suspect FB then received a knife from his friend KD and stabbed FTC in the right abdomen.
FTC was taken to Lefkosia State Hospital for observation, while suspects FB and KD were arrested under a detention warrant.
The police said the knife used in the incident has not yet been recovered and that other suspects involved in the case are still being sought.
The officer further stated that the statements given by the suspects would be verified and cross-checked, surveillance camera footage from the area would be obtained and reviewed, and that, for the investigation to proceed smoothly, the suspects should be detained in police custody for 3 days.
During his statement, suspect FB said, "I took the knife to scare him; I had no intention of stabbing him. However, when he saw the knife, he lunged at me, and the knife in my hand stabbed him."
Suspect KD said, "I took the knife because I was scared and kept it with me. They were drunk and might have attacked. Later, FTC came to me and took the knife from me. I regret bringing the knife."
The judge after evaluating the testimony presented, ordered the suspects to be held in police custody for 3 days for investigative purposes.
