North Cyprus deported 31 people involved in various crime to Turkey in 2024
North Cyprus authorities with cooperation with Turkey deported 31 people associated with various crimes to Turkey in 2024, among them are convicts wanted with the International Red Notice.
In cooperation between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Police General Directorate and the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Interior General Directorate of Security, 31 individuals involved in various crimes in the TRNC were deported to Turkey in 2024 and handed over to the relevant Turkish authorities.
According to a statement from the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Lefkosia, the deported individuals include 22 Turkish citizens convicted of crimes, as well as six Turkish citizens, one Iranian, one Russian, and one Estonian national who were wanted with an Interpol Red Notice.
The statement read, “As a result of the police cooperation, instant data exchange, and high-level coordination between the relevant units of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Interior General Directorate of Security and the TRNC Security Forces Command Police General Directorate, and with the diplomatic efforts of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Nicosia, 31 individuals apprehended were deported from the TRNC and handed over to the relevant authorities of the Republic of Turkey.”
Within this framework, in 2024, 22 Turkish citizens convicted of crimes such as violations of laws regarding firearms, knives, and other tools, sexual assault, fraud, theft, resisting law enforcement, intentional injury, property damage, armed threats, and drug trafficking—receiving final prison sentences ranging from 8 months and 10 days to 43 years and 10 months—were handed over to Turkish authorities.
Additionally, nine individuals wanted with Interpol Red Notices for crimes including murder, fraud, membership in an armed terrorist organization, smuggling, organized crimes, intentional injury, and sexual assault—comprising six Turkish citizens, one Iranian, one Russian, and one Estonian—were apprehended and handed over to the relevant Turkish authorities.
