Individual who begged the police to help return to his country arrested for living in north Cyprus illegally
An individual who has been residing illegally in north Cyprus for almost two years surrendered himself to the police, saying he wanted to return to his country.
The individual, RK, a Pakistan national was arrested at the Lefkosia Criminal Investigation Branch on Tuesday December 24 after approaching the police to seek for help in returning to his country.
He was brought to court on Wednesday.
Police told the court that on December 23, the suspect came to the Lefosia Criminal Investigation Branch and expressed his desire to return to his home country.
During an immigration check, it was discovered that the suspect had been residing in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) without a valid residence permit for 583 days, since May 25, 2023.
The police noted that the suspect was arrested and an investigation was initiated adding that a statement would be obtained from the Civil Immigration Department.
Stating that additional time was needed to process the deportation the police requested an additional three days of detention.
The suspect, who was given the opportunity to speak in court, stated that his mother was ill and that he wanted to return to his home country.
