Five individual caught with Indian Hemp in Güzelyurt

Five individuals who were arrested for possession of drugs in Güzelyurt will be detained for 2 days as part of the investigation.

The suspects AFRAZ, MM, AEH, MMMM and MMME were arrested at around 10:00 pm on Tuesday December 31, 2024 in Güzelyurt, in connection with “Illegal Possession, Acquisition, and Supply of Narcotic Substances”.

Police told the court that traffic police officers stationed at Ada Street in Güzelyurt stopped a vehicle with four passengers in it. The driver of the vehicle, identified as AFRAZ residing in Lefke, and passengers MM, seated in the front passenger seat, and AEB seated in the back seat, were found in the vehicle. During the search, approximately 9 grams of a substance believed to be cannabis (Indian Hemp) was found on the floor in front of the front passenger seat and was seized as evidence.

The police reported that the suspects were arrested on the spot and, during the investigation, it was learned that they had obtained the drugs from MMMM, who resides in Lefke.

Police further stated that following the incident, on January 1, 2025, at around 1:15 am, under a search warrant issued by the Duty Magistrate, the residences of MMME and MMMM in Gemikonağı were searched. 

During the search, approximately 30 grams of a substance believed to be cannabis (Indian Hemp) and one grinder were found on a table in the living room and seized as evidence. The suspects were subsequently arrested.

The officer noted that the investigation into the case was still in its early stages, and the suspects’ statements would be verified. Additionally, the seized narcotics would be sent for analysis, and the packaging used to store the narcotics would undergo fingerprint examination. He requested that the suspects remain in police custody for two days for investigative purposes.
