Famous Turkish rapper arrested for drug possession in north Cyprus

A famous Turkish rapper was arrested in Güzelyurt, north Cyprus after he was found in possession of drugs. 

The famous rapper known as Reckol, whose real name is Recep Eker, and one Lilian Khaled were arrested on charges of “Illegal Possession and Use of Narcotics” and “Violation of the Pharmacy and Medicines Law.” They were brought before the Lefkosia District Court on Wednesday Janaury 1, 2025.

Police officer who testified in court said teams from the Crime Prevention Branch, and Traffic Branch of the Güzelyurt Police Directorate stopped a vehicle at approximately 8:10 PM on December 31, 2024 for checks.

During a body search of the driver, Lilian Khaled, approximately two grams of a substance believed to be cannabis were found in the right pocket of her black jacket. The substance was seized as evidence.

The police reported that during a body search of the vehicle's passenger, the famous rapper Reckol, 17 pills of Xanax and 1 pill of Lyrica—both of which are regulated under the Pharmacy and Medicines Law—were found in his possession. These were also seized as evidence.

The police noted that both suspects had provided statements, which would be confirmed and cross-verified. The seized narcotic substance and its packaging would be sent for analysis. It was also noted that the pills in Eker’s possession were prescription medications subject to a green prescription. In his statement, Eker claimed he had obtained them with a prescription for his treatment in Turkey. This claim would also be investigated.

The police requested that the suspects be held in police custody for two days for the purpose of investigation.
