Elon Musk wants to buy Liverpool, billionaire’s dad says

Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk, has playfully confirmed his son’s interest in buying Liverpool Football Club, while cautioning against revealing too many details that might inflate the asking price.

Speaking to Times Radio, Errol Musk suggested that Elon is interested in the club, noting a family connection to Liverpool. “His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives there,” he said. The family also claims a historical connection to the Beatles through local ties.

The comments come after recent reports of Musk’s potential interest in purchasing the Premier League leaders. Currently at the helm of X (formerly Twitter), Tesla, and SpaceX, Elon Musk appears to be exploring potential sports investments.

Fenway Sports Group (FSG), Liverpool’s current owners, sold a minority stake to US investment firm Dynasty Equity in September 2023. This sale helped the club address pandemic-related debt and fund infrastructure improvements, including the new Anfield Road stand and training facilities.

Errol Musk was careful to temper expectations, adding, “That doesn’t mean he’s buying it,” while acknowledging that owning a top football club would be an attractive prospect for many.

The potential acquisition remains speculative, with no official confirmation of a formal purchase proposal from Elon Musk or his representatives.
