Magnitude 4 earthquake rattles Cyprus overnight

An earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale was recorded overnight off the coast of Cyprus, by the geological survey department of the Cyprus Ministry of Agriculture.

The earthquake occurred at 10.53pm on Thursday centered in the sea area, 45 km southeast of the city of Larnaca, and had a focal depth of 20 km.

The earthquake was strongly felt in the Larnaca district and was lightly felt across the rest of Cyprus, according to the department.

Two days ago on Wednesday a magnitude 5 earthquake was felt in Paphos, Kyrenia and Limassol.

The phenomenon is being monitored by the seismological centre of the geological survey department.
