North Cyprus Health Ministry to help Nigerian student with kidney failure

The Health Ministry is ready to “do its bit” to help secure a life-saving transplant for a foreign student suffering kidney failure, the TRNC minister Filiz Besim told Cyprus Today.

Dr Besim said Michael Mohammed Saliu could be registered on the organ transplant waiting list, the priority order of which is reviewed by a ministry committee in line with the urgency with which patients need treatment.

In the meantime, she said special exemption had been given for his dialysis at Gazimağusa State Hospital, commenting:

Under our patient-centred policy and acknowledging access to healthcare as a human right, our ministry provides exemptions to . . . patients if they demonstrate their [need].
