Turkmenistani man detained for assaulting wife and sister-in-law

A angry husband who on Sunday assaulted his wife and sister-in-law in Lefkosa over a dispute has been arrested by Turkish Cypriot police and detained.

The man identified as Sheripov, a Turkmenistan national was arrested at his residence in Lefkosa on Sunday and taken to a court in Lefkosa on Monday on charges of pushing and beating his wife over a dispute at about 11:00pm on Sunday.

According to police report in court, the man also assaulted his sister-in-law who tried to broker peace between them.

The man had previously been investigated for assaulting his wife in 2017, the police report added. 

But the 2017 investigation was dropped after his wife requested that he be bound to a guarantee which the court accepted.
